It is very sad to read the article "Reply from Tirtha in Prison to Janmashtami". Janmashtami Das is not claiming that he is a great devotee.
Tirtha writes, "The only reason Janmashtami was not prosecuted and sent to prison was because I shielded him from the authorities. However, since there is ultimately no statute of limitations on murder, should Janmashtami persist in his moronic rantings, perhaps some arrangement can be made for an interview with the US Attorney's Office." If the above statement is correct, it means that Tirtha has lied about the killing of Sulochana, as he has shielded people from the authorities. How many more people has he shielded? Being untruthful especially in matters of murder and protecting murderers or criminals is not acceptable from any moral standard. How can such a person be even called devotee? It is surprising that Tirtha considers himself among "the devotees who have dedicated their lives to the propagation of the holy name".
In the above statements, Tirtha is threatening Janmashtami Das that he will report secrets about his life to police if Janmashtami Das continues to speak against him. Such threats are unacceptable from any standard.
I am surprised how this letter passed Sun's editorial guidelines.
I would like to call upon all the devotees to participate in putting an end to such lowly behaviors and condemn such people who threaten other devotees who speak against them. Such behavior should not be acceptable.
Supporters of such people are committing spiritual suicide and also, their followers. It appears to me that people like Tirtha and his supporters are no way near bhakti.
