ISKCON Controversy: MUMBAI’S appeal rejected Dec 14th 2011: ISKCON Bangalore gained a tactical but an interim victory in the ongoing litigation between ISKCON Bangalore and ISKCON Mumbai about the temple here in Rajajinagar.

A three judge bench of the Supreme court here rejected a petition filed by ISKCON Mumbai questioning the decision of a divisional bench of Supreme Court comprising Justice Altmas Kabir and Justice Cyriac Joseph, which on July 5th had ordered that there should be ‘continuation of status quo’ in favour of ISKCON Bangalore. Thus, ISKCON Mumbai has had a major setback in its efforts to prove its ownership on ISKCON Bangalore temple. The three- judge Bench comprising Justice Altmas Kabir, Justice Chalameshwar and Justice Surendra Singh Nijjar has rejected ISKCON Mumbai’s appeal to allow it to form a ‘Supervisory Committee’ to look into the management of ISKCON temple in Rajajinagar. The three member bench has upheld the order regarding the maintenance of status quo at ISKCON Bangalore.

The bench has suggested that a committee should be formed under the leadership of retired Supreme Court judge Hon. Justice Raveendran to ensure transparency in the affairs of ISKCON temple. Representatives from ISKCON Bangalore and ISKCON Mumbai are allowed to be the members of the committee. The final verdict is slated to be given on February 16, 2012.
